Welbeck ‘Pictured’ Arsenal Move

Ex Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has said that he wanted to play for Arsenal and saw himself playing for the Gunners while he was still at Old Trafford.

England international Welbeck, 23, moved from Manchester United to Arsenal on transfer deadline day for a fee of £16 million.

With Olivier Giroud injured, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger knew that he needed to buy another striker.

Welbeck’s move shortly followed Manchester United’s loan signing of Colombian striker Radamel Falcao from Monaco and it seemed unlikely that Welbeck would be selected ahead of Falcao, Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney.

So the move is ideal for the 23 year old, who signed for Manchester United when he was 11 years old and graduated through the youth academy before scoring 20 goals in 90 appearances, and Welbeck says that he is excited by the move.

“It’s great to be a part of this club. I’ve envisaged myself playing in this team before. For it to finally happen is very exciting”.

Welbeck will now have the chance to play regular Premier League football for a top club, an opportunity he rarely got for Manchester United.

Although in the past three seasons Welbeck appeared in most league games, he was rarely given the chance to enjoy an extended run in the team playing in the number 9 position, and his goal tally is probably a result of his inconsistent appearances.

The striker hasn’t managed to score more than 10 Premier League goals in a season and only managed to score 1 goal in 2012/13.

So Welbeck believes that his Arsenal move is a chance to develop further as a player.

“I just think this is the next stage of my development – to come to Arsenal, to really show people what I can do as a footballer and hopefully get to the place where I want to be”.

Welbeck also believes he has the qualities and attributes to be a success as Arsenal.

“I’d like to bring pace and power to the game. At Arsenal, we’re not short of combination football and I like to join in on that and get in behind defenders and try to get shots off at goal. I want to score some goals and help the team to achieve the right results”.

The striker could potentially make his debut for Arsenal when they host champions Manchester City on the 13th September.
